Death of Uncle Mort
On Jan. 12th, 2007, Uncle Mort, beloved character of the comic strip Rudy Park, passed away from a heart attack, at age 84. Mort had become a central character in Rudy Park since he first arrived five years ago. Remembered as a kindly octogenarian, Mort spent his life espousing liberal causes in the panels of the daily strip. Just days after marrying Sadie Cohen, Mort Park died in the midst of a heated debate with Donald Rumsfeld. The comic world mourns the death of Uncle Mort.

Reuben Award Nominations Announced
The National Cartoonists Society has announced its nominees for the 2007 Reuben Awards, including the selections for Cartoonist of the Year, professional cartooning's highest honor. This year's nominees for the Reuben Award for Cartoonist of the Year are Bill Amend, creator of "Fox Trot"; Dave Coverly, creator of "Speed Bump"; and Dan Piraro, creator of "Bizarro." In addition, the year's top cartoonists in a dozen fields, from animation to newspaper strips to illustration and greeting cards, will be honored in the NCS Division Awards. The awards will be presented at a black tie dinner on Saturday, May 26, during the 61st Annual Reuben Awards Weekend, May 25-27, in Orlando, FL.
