Tarzan Tarzan originated in Burroughs' short story "Tarzan of the Apes," published in 1912. Several book versions followed, and in 1929, the Lord of the Jungle made his first appearance in a daily comic strip. In 1930, United Feature Syndicate (UFS) took over the syndication of Tarzan and launched the first Sunday comic in 1931. UFS continues to syndicate Tarzan as classic daily strips and newly created Sunday comics. The Sunday strips are created by artist Eric Battle and writer Alex Simmons. Battle, who illustrates the Tarzan Sundays, has drawn for a number of comic book companies, including DC Comics. Simmons writes a comic book series called "Black Jack" and, among his many other credits, is a well-known author of juvenile books.
