Lola |
She's a quick-witted, outspoken 70-something rebel. At this point in her life, Lola's not too worried about proper diet, or being "P.C." She'll surprise you with her kindness one minute and zing you with her razor-sharp wit the next. A widow who's now living with her son and family in suburbia, Lola was an army nurse in World War II and can still bark out a command that gets attention. Lola enjoys soap operas, all sports and yard sales, preferably with a good cigar and a cold beer.

Sammy |
Lola's 12 year old grandson, and her pride and joy. Lola is much more like a friend than a Grandma to Sammy. He's stuck in that awkward age, caught somewhere between girlfriends and action figures. He's a good, smart kid just trying to figure life out…with Lola's help. Although he wants to play pro sports someday, he has very limited athletic ability. Like most guys, his back-up plan is being a rock star. |

Ray |
Trying to be a good son, Ray asked Lola to move in with his family. Ray's attention to detail and nagging are constant sources of irritation to Lola. He is extremely sports-challenged and is a meticulous overthinker who married his high school sweetheart, Amy. Sammy is their son. |

Amy |
Amy is a good mother who tries her best to keep her son away from bad influences … and that's mainly Lola. Amy gave up full-time work to raise Sammy. She had a nice, peaceful, smoke-free life going until her mother-in-law moved in with the family. Through it all, Amy is compassionate, patient, slightly overprotective and tough when she needs to be.

Harry |
Being Lola's boyfriend is no easy task, but Harry seems up for the challenge. His laid-back attitude balances Lola's intensity, but it also drives her crazy. Harry's still a big kid at heart, as most fellas are. Harry is also going through life "dutch." He wears his frugality as a badge of honor.

Etta |
Lola's senior "sistah" friend. Etta and Lola have a unique and competitive, yet loving friendship. Etta is one of the few people in the world willing to put Lola in her place. She's fearless. Together they form quite an 'old-school' butt-kicking duo.
