Mark Leiknes is the gifted artist and wit behind Cow & Boy. He had dreamt of drawing comics for a living since he was six years old, and following one disheartening rejection after another while in his teens and early twenties, it took his family to get him motivated again. “With fatherhood looming, I kept seeing that six-year-old version of myself drawing comics in his bedroom, and I thought how crushed he would be to find out that I had given up on our dream,” Leiknes said. “So three months after my daughter was born, I tried one more time and submitted Cow & Boy.” The strip is hardly a far cry from Leiknes’ real life, or what he envisions it to soon be. “Picturing our kids running around in those open fields,” he says, “is where the idea of Cow & Boy began.”
